Whether you are a parent, visitor, passerby or media organisation, it is important to keep children and adults safe - filming outside the school can put people at risk. LGfL and Islington Council (Katy Potts, Islington ICT) are currently working on a pilot campaign with schools to stop filming near school gates, but we know many other schools are rolling out similar projects - make sure you know why.
What you may not realize is that the school uniform, the name of the school, and the school sign can identify people's location. For a start, you don't have their consent to do that, but it really does put some people at risk. You might not be aware of who in your school has been fostered or adopted. It's really important for these children who are looked after that their location is kept confidential. But also there are families as well who may have moved across the country to escape a crime, some under police protection, you won't know who these people are. So even if you plan to keep the picture on your own phone, please don't do it near the school because you could always catch people in the background. Even if you don't plan to put it on social media, these things can happen.
The staff at our school also deserve privacy, and we ask that you respect this. So for the sake of everyone, whether it's for GDPR, whether it's for safeguarding, thank you for not filming by this school.
